    Dear son
    
        I take this oportunity to rite to you to let you know that youre uncle G Cowan & Hayse will leave to morrow morning to Monterey they will come in a carriage Reeves'es letter date the 13th said that you were verry sick you had a bad bowel complaint which we were verry sorry to heare after going through so much hard ship and fatigue as you had under went but we hope and trust through kind providence that these few lines may find you mending and also David Cowan and that you both may be permited to return to the bosoms of youre friends we are all well and all the frinds but youre uncle Vincent he is unwell if he had have been well he would have come out to you Reeves said they were a going to leave there to morrow the 14 I will rite to let you know how we are rit if you can Hayse can rite when he gets there nothing more buy remain your affectionate Pa & Ma and sisters and brothers
