Dear Brother
As I now have an opportunity of sending you a letter, I embrace such an opportunity to inform you that I am not very well at the present time. I was taken with a head-ache & vomiting night before last. I was very bad for a little while, but I have got very near well now, I think it was caused by wading the little river the day before. We are now camped on Gen. Bowen's land I git water out of Hugh Young's cave spring. I said that we were camped on Gen. Bowen's land But part of our Reg. is camped on Young's land near the spring. I do not know how long we will stay here, part of the Kentucky Reg. is now gone to Kentucky & the remainder has orders to march, the rumor is that Gen. Marshals whole Brigade will go to Kentucky before long. I think there is not many of the 29th very willing to go. Capt Smith has not come to camp yet, several of our boys go Home without furloughs because Lieu. Fuller will not [...] their furlough. None of us is very much pleased with Lieu. Fuller as a commander. We have been
paid off for the balance of our time since I came up to camp.
I have now about $180.00 in hand with my wages & what I have made since I came up to camp, & also with what I brought from Home. I only had $20.00 when I started from Home. I made $37.00 on those three watches clear. I could have made a little more on the Branson watch, but I let Sam'l Fuller have it and I did not charge him as much as I could have gotten else where althoug he gave me $22.50 for it, I had been offered twenty five, But Sam wanted it & I could not refuse him. I got $20.50 for the Lintecum watch & $35.00 for the Uncle Sam watch. for those two knives I got $6.00 just doubled my money. I must cease writing about my making money for I spend as well as make & that is not all, I suppose you would rather hear about something else.
I stayed all night the night I left you at Liberty Hill at Ms. Shannon's then went up to the Reg. next morning they were stationed about two miles this side of Jeffersonville. When I came to the Reg. I found them all very well situated & some of the boys were very much taken with the girls in that neighborhood, Charles Johnson [...] paying his respects to a Miss Moore, [...] residence was in Guiandott & she was staying at the Widow Peerys. just as I reached camp Charles said I might go with him down to Miss Peery's.
