Card 9 I CERTIFY, That the within named Martin V. Ball an orderly Sergt. of Captain Robert E. Cowan's company (I) of the 47th Regiment of Va. Vols. born in Russell in the State of Virginia, aged 24 years, Six feet, 3 inches high, fair complexion, dark eyes, dark hair, and by profession farmer was enlisted by Capt. Simeon Hunt at New Garden on the 8th day of May, 1861 to serve one year and is now entitled to discharge by reason of just being promoted to Capt. & now being relieved from command by an order of Maj. Genl. Jackson. The said Martin V. Ball was last paid by Capt. Haller to include the 1st day of Jany 1862 and has pay due from that date to the 16th day of April 1862. There is due to him Seventy four 20/100 Dollars traveling allowance from _____, the place of discharge, to _____, the place of enrolment, transportation not being furnished in kind. There is due him _____ He is indebted to the Confederate States two 50/100 Dollars on account of Quartermaster Stores (a blanket). Given in duplicate at Camp, this 22 day of April, 1862. 2nd Lieut.
