Cowan's company (I) of the 37th Regt of Va Volunteers born in the county of Russell in the state of Virginia aged 27 years 5 feet 10 inches high fair complexion blue eyes dark hair and by occupation when enlisted a carpenter, was enlisted by Capt. S. Hunt at New Garden Russell County Virginia on the 2nd day of May eighteen hundred and sixty one to serve for one year and is now entitled to a discharge by reason of disability.

Hunt of the 37th Regt of Virginia at New Garden on the 2nd day of May to serve one year he was born in Russell County in the State of Va 27 years of age 5 feet 10 inches high fair complexion blue eyes dark hair and by occupation when enlisted a carpenter.
During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty thirty days, the cause of the Disability of said soldier originate from a fractured leg received before his enlistment.

In any opinion the said soldier will not be fit for duty during the period of his enlistment. And I therefore recommend his discharge.
