Card 13 WAR DEPARTMENT THE ADJUTANT'S GENERAL'S OFFICE WASHINGTON February 18, 1935. The name Lafayette Monk, rank and company not shown, 72 Regiment Virginia Militia, also know as Russell County Virginia Militia, Confederate States Army, appeared on a Roll of the organization mustered into the service of the Confederate States at Lebanon, Russell County, Virginia, March 20, 1862. No other record of him as of this organization has been found. The records also show that one Lafayett Monk, also borne as Fayette Monk, private, Company G, 29th Regiment Virginia Infantry, and appears to have been transferred to Stevenson's Company, Ferguson's Battalion, Virginia Cavalry, C. S. A., September 1, 1862. By consolidation of organizations, January 15, 1863, this company became a part of the 16 Regiment Virginia Cavalry, C. S. A., and the soldier became a private of Company A, the regiment. The muster roll of the company for November and December, 1864, last on file, shows him present, and no later record has been found. His name is also borne as Lafayette Monk in the last two named organizations. Major General, The Adjutant General By |
