Card 5 Certificate of Disability for Discharge. Jasper N. Rasnick of Capt. Robt. E. Cowans company (I) of the 37th Regiment of Confederate States of America was enlisted by Capt. Cowan of the 37th Regiment of Virginia at Monterey Highland Co. on the fifth day of August to serve one year, he was born in the county of Russell in the State of Virginia is 26 years of age five feet eight inches high fair complexion blue eyes dark har, and by occupation when enlisted a farmer. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty Said soldier has never been fit for duty on account of a natural deformity of his right arm and hand his arm being small and crooked and thumb off of his hand. Robt. E. Cowan Capt. Commanding Company Approved H. C. Wood Capt. Comdg 37th Regt Va Vols I certify that I have carefully examined said Private Jasper N. Rasnick of Capt. E. R. Cowan's Co. (I.) 37th Reg. Va. Vols. and find him incapable of discharging the duties of a soldier because of deformity of the right hand which disqualifies him for the use of his musket.
