At a General Court Martial convened by virtue of General Order No 59 Hd Qrs Valley Disct June 16th 1862 were arrayed & tried as follows:

2nd Private Madison Rhea Co. I 37th Regiment Va. Vols.

Specification - In this that the said private Maddison Rhea Co I 37th Regt Va Vols being regularly in the Military service of the Confederate States did on or about the 12th day of May 1862 in the County of Highland Va desert the said service knowingly & wilfully

Sentence

The Court sentenct the said prisoner private Madison Rhea Co I 37th Regt Va Vols:
To forfeit four months pay wear a ball & chain for thirty days & to be publicly reprimanded at Dress Parade in the presence of the Regiment.
The proceedings findings & sentence in the foregoing case are approved & will be carried into effect with the exception of wearing ball & chain which is remitted in consequence of the difficulty of carrying that part of the sentence into execution at this time.
