*This company was formerly a part of Captain Otis Caldwell's Company Virginia Cavalry. It was divided May 28, 1863, into two companies which formed McFarlane's Squadron Virginia Cavalry and they acted as Companies K and L, 27th Battalion Virginia Cavalry, until July or August, 1863, when they were assigned to Jessee's (3d) Battalion Kentucky Mounted Riflemen as Companies E and F. In May, 1864, they were transferred to the 34th Battalion Virginia Cavalry and became Companies I and H of that organization.
