I certify that I have carefully examined the said Harvey P. Whitehead of Capt. Robert E. Cowan's company and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier, because of a large tumor arising from the popliteal space, which has grown very rapidly and is becoming very painful. The tumor has not attained such a size, as to interfere materially with the motion of the limb, & is believe to be malignant in its character. I therefore recommend that said soldier be discharged from the service. E. M. Campbell, Surgn 37th Regt. Va. Vol. Oct. 30, 1861 |
