Letters of James H. and Robert M. Barrett

James H. Barrett enlisted, along with his brother Robert, in the 37th Virginia Infantry on May 2, 1861. He was promoted to Sergeant and elected to Lieutenant in May of 1862. He was killed in action on September 17, 1862, just three days after writing his last letters. Brother Bob was wounded at Second Manassas.
