Roanoke Co. Va,
February the 10, 1863

Dear Brother

I received your letter and was glad to hear that you was all well. I was verry sick a few days a go but I am in tolerable good helth at this time. I think it was cold I caught laing out. I am bording at a private hous the smalpoks is all around us but nun in Camp that I now of, the solders is dying two and three evry day in the hospital at Salem. We have drawed our wages up to the thirty first of December I got one hundred and seventy seven dollars and ten cents.
I will sell you my mar if I can by another but they ask two hundred and fifty dollars for horses here that I would not give the mar for. I want you to give her some corn and give the heiffers a litle corn two if you think they need it. Some thinks we will go back to russell shortly but capton stevison told me this morning he did not think we would go back to russell before april tel Peter I will rite to him shortly. Matilda I want you and biddy to rite to me and all of you to rite you don't now how glad I am to receive anything that comes from home.
