The records show tha James H. Barrett, 37th Virginia Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted as sergeant May 2, 1861, and was promoted to 2d lieutenant May 17, 1862. On roll dated December 11, 1862, last roll on file, he was reported to have been killed in battle September 17.
