Personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace for the County of Russell, Albert Fletcher and made oath in due form of law that on the 9th of January 1864 a horse belonging to the Wagon Train of the 29th Va. Regt. and in possession of Capt. S. C. Painter A. Q. M was drowned while crossing the Holston River, Tenn. and no attention of Capt. Painter could prevent said loss.
