The [...] here of Archibald J. Gray a Private of Capt. John W. Fickle's Company "C" 37th Va Regt. of Virginia Volunteers, aged twenty six years, five feet nine inches & one half, fair complexion, blue eyes, black hair and by occupation a farmer, born in the County of Russell State of Virginia and enlisted at Lebanon, in the County of Russell, State of Virginia on the 8th day of March 1862 to serve for the period of three years or during the war, and is afflicted with Chronic Rheumatism, which in my opinion renders him unfit for active field service. Said Archibald J. Gray has been unfit for duty for near twelve months.

I certify that I have carefully examined private Archibald Gray Co. (C) 37th Regt Va. Infy. & find him afflicted with Chronic Rheumatism, which in my opinion will permanently disqualify him for active field service. Would therefore respectfully recommend that he be detailed for light duty.
Patient has had repeated attacks of acute rheumatism. Has been unfit for duty for near twelve months.
