CERTIFICATE OF DISABILITY FOR DISCHARGE.

John T. Gray, a private, of Captain John W. Fickle's Company (C) of the thirty-seventh Regiment of Confederate States Army, was enlisted by Capt. John F. McElhenny, of the 37th Regiment of Va. Vols. at Lebanon, Russell Co., Va on the 10th day of May, 1861, to serve [...] years; he was born in Lee County in the State of Virginia, is twenty-six years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, hazel eyes, black hair, and by occupation when enlisted a farmer. During the last [...] months said soldier has been unfit for duty [...] days.

I CERTIFY, that I have carefully examined the said Private Jno. T. Gray of Captain Fickle's Company, and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of Gunshot wound, injuring Spine, & Chronic disease of heart, which in my opinion renders him unfit for field service. Therefore recommend that he be detailed for lighter duty, & to take the place of Private Jno. G. Davis, 37th Va. Reg. now on Provost duty at Lebanon, Russell Co., Va.
