The records show that one John W. Hackney, private, 2d sergeant and private, Company K (name not borne as J. W. Hackney and not found as of Company A), 48th Reg't Virginia Infantry, C. S. A., enlisted June 25, 1861, and a regimental return on file for March, 1862, shows him absent without leave since March 21. No later record of him as been found.
The records also show that a Joseph Hackney served as 4th corporal in Company K (also known as Companies C & D) of said regiment. His record will be furnished if desired.
