A. A. G,
Sir

I would respectfully call attention to the enclosed certificate of appointment and ask [...] my application. If I am transferred to cavalry in this army, I will have to go into the ranks of course and I do not think I should be reduced to rank because I have [...] unfortunately been wounded in battle. Besides, I am not able to so efficiently serve with arms in any capacity and am satisfied that I can do my country well this army much more gone in Q. M.'s department where I have procured an appointment.
I should have provided the certificate of my appointment with my application but Genl Lee's endorsement on my first application indicated that nothing was necessary further than a certificate of disability from the Md. Ex. [...] of the division.
Hoping that my application will be forwarded and approve.
[...]
most respectfully
your obt. serv't.
